I’m reminded of Fanon’s observation that the colonial dehumanization of the colonized subject also requires that colonizers dehumanize themselves.

hooks says more or less the same thing about patriarchy; Before you can create a man who serves the patriarchy you have to beat all the compassion and humanity out of a little boy.

You have to make monsters, you can’t just go dig them out of cave like in Narnia or whatever.

If you support Israel then you aren’t a leftist. Leftists don’t support imperialist ethnostates.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone could call themself a leftist and not know about the free palestine movement, it’s one of the issues real leftists are very loud about.

And it’s not like a new thing either. I remember Palestinian flags being waved at leftist demonstrations as far back as the mid 2000’s.

Lol the mid 2000s? You ever heard of the FLQ? The mostly Marxist Quebec Libération Front of the 60s? They were training in Jordan with the PLO/PFLP. As did the German RAF, Ulrike Meinhof was injured with a grenade there.

The Anti-Israel Movement in Québec in the 1970s: At the Ideological Crossroads of the New Left and Liberation-Nationalism

Since the late 1950s, Third World nationalism in Algeria, Vietnam, and the Middle East had fascinated radical Quebec nationalists. Quebec nationalism’s militant arm, the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ), styled itself as a national-liberation movement fighting against Anglo-Canadian exploitation and oppression. After the Six-Day-War, the PLO became a significant source of inspiration for these elements. Quebec was their Palestine, as one prominent Quebec Nationalist asserted. This militant Quebec nationalism coincided and often overlapped with the rise of the New Left at Quebec’s universities and in its unions. Like its European and American counterparts, the Quebec New Left adopted the ideologies of anti-imperialism and anti-Zionism, and in 1972, the Quebec-Palestine Association was established in this milieu. Anti-imperialism combined the Marxist analysis of class struggle with a nationalistic worldview, which saw the world divided between oppressor and oppressed nations. For the New Left, Israel became the epitome of an oppressor nation. It was associated with all the supposed vices of the West: Racism, capitalism, inauthenticity, and militarism. This paper sheds light on the founding years of the Quebec anti-Zionist movement in the early 1970 and discusses the themes and images it used to describe Israel and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

For a more American perspective, Malcom X was always Anti-Zionist.

It was Malcolm who warned us in his lifetime about the damage being done to the Palestinians, before any other African American leader or civil rights organization, just as he would take on the Vietnam War before anyone else would.

The Zionist Logic - Malcom X

The Israeli Zionists are convinced they have successfully camouflaged their new kind of colonialism.

“If you, a Jew, do not want to be a sniveling lapdog to America, the country that has treated you like vermin throughout history and at best is treating you like useful vermin you, you’re an antisemite.”

TIL not bending over to white Christians as their loyal kapo makes me an antisemite.

Confession: I’ve incorrectly assumed the far left doesn’t have an anti-genocide problem. I believed our ranks were filled with people like me that opposed blowing up children’s hospitals, not blowing up hospitals itself.

    That is clearly not true.

    I’m embarrassed I didn’t see this sooner

Well put, but also when more than 40% of the population is under 14 and the median age of the country is less than 20 years old, every hospital is a children’s hospital.

Word. If we assume that most Palestinian troops are younger than 25 then most of them have likely never been outside Gaza, certainly not at a time they could remember.

Yeah I just… while I’m not one of the people that’s like "hell yeah hamas kill the kkkolonizers* ", I mean the US and Israel picked them and supported them because of how bad they are. But whenever I see a Hamas or other Palestinian militant group, regardless of how right wing they are, I can’t help but think these are literally baby prisoners, these are the actual babies that survived being born and raised in a literal concentration camp

There’s a video where they bust through the fence and start walking and half of them just start crying. Like what the fuck, it’s so fucked up

          *active settlers are not civilians

There is some tragedy with the settlers. When the Arab states exiled and robbed their Jewish populations after the declaration of Israel, they all ended up fleeing to Israel because no one else would take them. And Israel didn’t want them, so after trapping them in refugee camps for years it sent many of them out to the frontiers to be, pardon the term, human shields between the Arabs and the European core. Some, certainly not all, settlers are the children of people exiled from their homes due to the actions of European colonizers, then sent off to be colonial meat-shields by those same European colonizers. That’s got to result in some kind of fucked up attitude towards the world, and I doubt a lot of those people ever really had much of a chance to be normal.

We were talking somewhere else on hexbear about how none of these people were born monsters; it had to be beaten in to them to hate and want to hurt people. The first victims of imperialism, colonialism, apartheid, whatever, are the oppressor’s own children, who have to be beaten in to the shape of oppressors before they can be turned against the oppressed.

Lol. The Europeans even forced a name on them. “Mizrahi”. Easterners. Racialized on their arrival in to the newly declared ethnostate, and immediately weaponized in the same fashion as many other racialized groups had been before.

How do people like this even believe they’re “far left.” If you’re a raging transphobe and zionist apologist you should realize that you’re not actually “far left,” fuck you’re not even center left. Politics in the US are either Norwegian social democrats wanting free healthcare and genocide of the third world or American Christian Nationalists with various other flavors of naziism spread around for fun.

And so the turn rightward is complete.

Not that this was a surprise to anybody actually paying attention to Brianna’s ineffectual succdem mewling for the last 3 years. Brianna was only ‘on the left’ because she claimed to be on the left and most of the podcast sphere is too nice or politically illiterate to notice how much of a apologist liberal she always is.
