Now in our second week of the conflict, we have seen continuing damage to both Israel and Iran, as well as direct US intervention which nonetheless seems to have caused limited damage to Fordow and little damage to Iran’s nuclear program. Regime change seems more elusive than ever, as even Iranians previously critical of the government now rally around it as they are attacked by two rabid imperialists at once. And Iran’s government is tentatively considering a withdrawal, or at minimum a reconsideration, of their membership to the IAEA and the NPT. And, of course, the Strait of Hormuz is still a tool in their arsenal.
A day or so on from the strike on Fordow, we have so far seen basically no change in strategy from the Iranian military as they continue to strike Israel with small barrages of missiles. Military analysts argue furiously - is this a deliberate strategy of steady attrition on Israel, or indicative of immense material constraints on Iran? Are the hits by Israel on real targets, or are they decoys? Does Iran wish to develop a nuke, or are they still hesitating? Will Iran and Yemen strike at US warships and bases in response to the attack, or will they merely continue striking only Israel?
And perhaps most importantly - will this conflict end diplomatically due to a lack of appetite for an extended war (to wit: not a peace but a 20 year armistice) or with Israel forced into major concessions including an end to their genocide? Or even with a total military/societal collapse of either side?

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don’t want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it’s just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

the newsmega can have a little ‘is zohran mao or obama’ struggle session as a treat (such as in this subthread) but this is the world newsmega, not the electoralism-mega and so please limit zohran posting to a dull roar. things like zohran struggle sessions are literally exactly what c/electoralism was made for, not the news mega.
along the same lines, zionists and fascists are having a shitfit about zohran and yes it is funny, but let’s try to keep the newsmega to only the dankest of memes and the saltiest of zionist tears. we don’t need to hear about every DC think tankie pondering the orb with bill ackman.

News is floating around that the snake Rafael Grossi said Iran is hiding nuclear material in Isfahan.
The truth is somewhat more bizarre and actually concerning. In an interview with “Fox News” a few days ago, the anchor says that he claimed Iran was hiding 900lbs of enriched uranium at “ancient site near Isfahan.” Grossi does not deny saying it (I can’t find evidence he ever did say it.) He replies that the IAEA doesnt know and can’t be sure unless Iran allows IAEA observers into Iran.
Screenshot from the linked article.
It is noteworthy that this specific nazi news outlet used to employ the current US Secretary of Genocide Pete Hegseth who used to talk about “bombing Iranian cultural sites” on his show.
Anyways. Grossi gets plausible deniability while the US gets to threaten Iran that they will bomb the 800 year old Mosque outside Isfahan if the Islamic Republic doesnt allow IAEA spies into the country.
The idea of hiding uranium in a mosque is so laughably absurd but I guess 25 years of war on terror programming has prepared people to accept it.
Thankfully the Iranian government did officially ban cooperation with
MossadIAEA earlier this week.Russian forces liberated eight more settlements over the past week (Novaya Kruglyakovka and Petrovskoye in Kharkov oblast; and Dyleyevka, Novosergeyevka, Zaporozhye, Perebudova, Shevchenko and Yalta in the Donetsk People’s Republic): https://tass.com/politics/1982135

Three recent events to do with Iran that I believe may be interlinked:
First, Iran has begun excavation operations at Isfahan, the underground nuclear site where only the entrances were targeted. No GBU-57 MOPs deployed here. They have opened one of these entrances today, visible on satellite imagery. It is no longer entombed. Iran may have transferred enriched uranium and centrifuges stored inside the facility, likely undamaged. Unless this movement has been co-ordinated with the United States for a potential handover of enriched material (I doubt this), this is an important development, as it could be considered a breach of the ceasefire.
The virtual US embassy in Iran has released a statement advising US citizens to leave Iran immediately while the airspace is open to commerical and civilian aircraft. Archive source to avoid data capture by a US government website
Event: As of June 26, 2025, Iranian airspace has been partially reopened, although commercial travel from Tehran and other major hubs may be disrupted. U.S. citizens should monitor local media and consult commercial airlines for more information on outbound flights from Iran. U.S. citizens planning to depart Iran should proceed by land to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, or Turkmenistan, if conditions are safe.
Leave Iran immediately. Have a plan to leave Iran without relying on U.S. government assistance. If you cannot leave Iran, choose a safe place in your residence or another safe building. Take some food, water, medicine, and other essential items with you. Keep your cell phone charged and stay in touch with family and friends to keep them informed of your situation.
Another E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft has been transferred to Saudi Arabia. Remember, there are still many US fighter aircraft (likely over 200) forward deployed to the Middle East, and the 4x B-52 Stratofortress bombers and 6x F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft have not left Diego Garcia.
Trump’s tweet about Khamenei is likely not about him or his speech at all. I’d guess it’s a signal to Iran given the developments at Isfahan. This is a developing and dynamic situation, if the US or Israel do believe Iran has excavated enriched uranium and intact centrifuges, without oversight by the USA, it could escalate fast. Again, could possibly based on these assumptions, not will.
Update: preliminary and unconfirmed reports of explosions or air defence activity in Tabriz, Malard, Eslamshahr, Karaj, and the Western parts of Tehran. Updating to say it’s most likely over cautious air defence.
Wonder if this is just the usual events since the beginning of the ceasefire (air defence firing as a precaution), or something else.

anybody have news on the members of Madleen? I remember reading that most of its members were deported, but I feel like that story was dropped and forgotten about before everyone was released. Is there any news on whether there are still members being held hostage by israel?
Today was the first time I thought of it in a few weeks
edit: As of ~ 1 week ago, everyone was free, as per Omar Faiad, who was part of the flotilla
: “Why would the so-called “Supreme Leader,” Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war torn Country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the War with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie, it is not so. As a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie. His Country was decimated, his three evil Nuclear Sites were OBLITERATED, and I knew EXACTLY where he was sheltered, and would not let Israel, or the U.S. Armed Forces, by far the Greatest and Most Powerful in the World, terminate his life. I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH, and he does not have to say, “THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP!” In fact, in the final act of the War, I demanded that Israel bring back a very large group of planes, which were heading directly to Tehran, looking for a big day, perhaps the final knockout! Tremendous damage would have ensued, and many Iranians would have been killed. It was going to be the biggest attack of the War, by far. During the last few days, I was working on the possible removal of sanctions, and other things, which would have given a much better chance to Iran at a full, fast, and complete recovery - The sanctions are BITING! But no, instead I get hit with a statement of anger, hatred, and disgust, and immediately dropped all work on sanction relief, and more. Iran has to get back into the World Order flow, or things will only get worse for them. They are always so angry, hostile, and unhappy, and look at what it has gotten them - A burned out, blown up Country, with no future, a decimated Military, a horrible Economy, and DEATH all around them. They have no hope, and it will only get worse! I wish the leadership of Iran would realize that you often get more with HONEY than you do with VINEGAR. PEACE!!!”
Those 2 planes targeted by Palestine Action that resulted in Starmer giving the org the terrorism label? They weren’t even RAF owned. They are owned by a hedge fund that leases them to the british military.
Constitutional Court halts investigation against President Petro - Prensa Latina
Article
Bogota, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) The Constitutional Court of Colombia halted the investigation carried out by the National Electoral Council (CNE) against President Gustavo Petro, for alleged irregularities in the financing of his campaign, according to the national press.
The CNE is not competent to investigate President Petro, the court ruled in response to a tutelary action filed by the head of state himself, who alleged that the process was not being duly respected.
According to the Court’s decision, the CNE must deliver a copy of all the investigative actions to the House of Representatives, which is the competent instance to judge the president.
The case started in 2024, when the CNE opened an investigation against Petro, who allegedly exceeded the spending limits established during the electoral campaign that led him to the presidency in 2022.
Analysts in the South American nation attach great importance to what they consider a political victory of Petro over right-wing sectors that promote actions to destabilize the government and prevent it from making progress in the implementation of its social projects.
Another W for Petro?
Like how NATO rolled out a Ukranian citizen for sympathy points as they beg Trump for more weapons.
Brazil is negotiating with Russia over floating nuclear power plants for the Amazon The government is evaluating a proposal from Russian state-owned Rosatom to install small reactors in the northern region and strengthen its alliance with Moscow. According to Rosatom’s director for Latin America, Ivan Dibov, the state-owned company intends to expand its partnership with Brazil, which began in March with the joint exploration of uranium at the Caetité mine in Bahia. “We are very interested in expanding our cooperation,” said the executive.
Rosatom is one of the world’s leading companies in the nuclear sector, with around US$ 100 billion in external revenues by 2024 - 20% coming from countries considered to be Russia’s adversaries in the context of the Ukraine war, such as the United States. The state-owned company is a pioneer in the production of small modular reactors, known as SMRs (Small Modular Reactors), which have a capacity of between 10% and 50% of traditional plants, but with the advantage of taking up less space.
In May, during a visit to Russia, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party) had already signaled Brazil’s interest in expanding the partnership in the energy sector. “We are interested in discussing the energy sector in particular. We are very interested in establishing a relationship with Russia on small nuclear power plants,” said Lula at the opening of a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
According to the Russian company, the Amazon region could be home to up to 12 reactors by 2035, with a generating capacity of 0.6 GW. Another ten floating reactors would be installed off the coast of the Northeast, increasing the supply by 0.5 GW. Together, these projects would represent around half of the current installed capacity of the Brazilian nuclear matrix.
The nuclear sector has experienced a renaissance since the Fukushima disaster in 2011. Last week, the World Bank lifted its veto on funding for nuclear projects, including modular reactors, like the ones Brazil is now considering taking to the Amazon.

Does anyone here know the Iranian born western academic Vali Nasr? He wrote “The Shia Revival” a while back and also a book titled “The Rise of Islamic Capitalism: Why the New Muslim Middle Class Is the Key to Defeating Extremism” (just so you know where he stands).
Anyway he put out a book written right before the Assad government fell called “Iran’s Grand Strategy: A Political History”, it’s what it says on the tin. I think for anyone confused about why the fuck Iran does what it does and what its leaders think, usually in their own terms and not the author’s, this is a good read.
But before reading just listen to that episode of
about the terms “proxy” and “backed” because the author views Iran’s “Forward Defense” strategy of supporting these organizations as reprehensible, while no doubt he would not say the same about whatever NGOs the US literally funds. Despite that, it’s not too axe-grindish a read I think he did a good job of relaying what the hardliners and reformists believe and why, and any sensible reader will read this and note how in plenty of matters the hardliners are correct.
There’s lots of good stuff about Khamenei too, like how he was influenced by new left theories of anti-imperialism and dependency theory. Also explains why Iran for a long time (and even until today) is very reluctant to join a Russia-China axis (the iranian foreign minister literally has “neither east nor west” on its entrance)
At the end he puts out a warning to the regime that basically there’s a chasm forming between its commitment to its strategies for resisting the united states as a means of becoming a regional power and the wishes of many iranians to adopt a more “”“”“pragmatic”“”“” approach (like nuclear negotiations). This was obviously all before the recent missile lobbing war so I hope that chasm as been reduced in favor of the regime.
It’s on the audiobook torrent site too
EDIT: Found the guy’s twitter and he seems to understand that Iran is not just going to return to the negotiating table after one happens, and it may have only hardened Khamenei’s already incredibly hard will to resist the US
