And 90% of the replies are people going “cuz they are dumb and bad!” and maybe like three guys heavily downvoted at the bottom trying to provide an actual explanation.

Not saying we NEVER get posts like that here. But the whole practice of making posts like these weekly/daily/hourly just screams insecurity to me. I feel like us HexBear commies are all pretty aware of why our opponents don’t agree with us and don’t need daily session of us all collectively reminding each other.

Edit: typo

Liberals still believe it’s the end of history and everything is getting steadily better, everyone who criticizes liberalism in any way is just hindering that progress because they’re bad. They never stop to consider why anyone would do that.

Well, actually they have, it’s because of Russian propaganda.

What’s that I hear? You don’t support the genocide of Palestinians?? OK Boris, go back to Moscow am I rite!! smuglord

I can’t help but imagine there are liberals who disagree with genocide who are seeing these reactions - not just on social media but from leaders of the Democratic party too - and maybe wondering why the ebil RUZZIANS would be solidly on the morally correct side of this.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they equivocated the genocide of Palestinians with the “genocide” of Ukrainians at the hands of Putin. In particular, both entities justify bombing civilian buildings by saying militants are using civilians as human shields. Of course, they won’t acknowledge that Russia went out of their way to avoid hitting civilian areas until the tactic became widespread and that the Ukrainian military has a whole ass massive country to set up defenses in whereas zionists make no attempt to avoid killing civilians and Palestinian resistance fighters in Gaza are trapped in a place the size of an average city and have no where else to set up military installments.

Right, but my point is that if they believe the NAFO-tier bullshit about Russia doing a genocide, why do prominent Democrats immediately accuse people opposed to the genocide of Palestinians of being Russian shills? This is the contradiction I am assuming some liberals are noticing. No idea if they’ll just set it aside or if it will drive further investigation into the contradictions of liberal politics, of course.

Don’t you know, they aren’t on the correct side, the evil Ruskys just wants to subvert American Democracy and Freedom™ however they can, so if they oppose a genocide it’s just a coincidence.

It’s lack of materialism. Liberals think that politics is a matter of knowledge vs. ignorance, and that if anyone disagrees with them, they simply don’t have all the facts or are too stupid to understand them. If someone in the Global South is unhappy about the American boot stomping them into the dirt, then satisfying them is (or rather, should be) a mere matter of showing them the graphs proving that them getting stomped is objectively the best policy. Libs rarely understand that above all, people want systems to benefit them rather than hurt them, and when they do understand it, they see it as a personal failing to be corrected.

I’ve had many attempts to explain that fash aren’t stupid, they have fundamentally different goals and desires shouted down. Try to tell libs that people who disagree with them aren’t misguided libs or idiots, but rather people with different beliefs, and some libs will be very angry.

it’s funny when it even turns up in /r/science or similar subs. “new study shows that republican voters are less creative/curious/logical/whatever than democrats!” shows up like twice a month at least

    • They are uneducated

    • They don’t even understand their own interests

    • They are just plain bad or morally reprehensible

    • They are all aspiring dictators

    • They are mentally “defective”

    • It’s a cult/they are brainwashed

    • Something ageist - either they are either a bunch of old people who are out of touch and/or senile or they are a bunch of whiny college students who haven’t worked a real day in their lives

(Not intending to make a particular comment about anything but these are the boilerplate replies that I see right across the spectrum.)

Extra points if you wrap it all up in allegorical stories that are part of the popular zeitgeist; 1984, The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Warhammer 40k, Avatar: The Last Airbender etc.

Tbf we kind of have our own versions of a lot of these, there’s some truth to them too. But we at least try and put some materialist analysis in there, there’s a reason a lot of people are uneducated, aspiring dictators, just plain bad.

Yeah, I’d say that it’s true that we use a lot of these.

I think the qualitative difference is that there’s grounds for a lot of what we accuse the other sides of, whereas this doesn’t necessarily apply in the other direction (or they’ll find the most unhinged PatSoc Hinkler and claim that this person is representative of all communists in order to argue the above.)

Another part of it is how much we use these terms in a strict sense. For example, I’d say that diehard Trump supporters are legitimately close to being cultists whereas I’d say that the vote blue no matter who crowd is “cult-like” in how they basically argue that the DNC cannot fail you, it can only be failed by you. But I’m not going to say that I legitimately believe that it’s an actual cult. Same goes for liberal indoctrination; I might use the term “brainwashed” but I’m not actually arguing that they’re legitimately brainwashed, it’s just a hyperbolic way of referring to the level of indoctrination they have and it’s useful as shorthand.

I feel like we have a very solid idea of why our opponents think the way they do, and probably more understanding for conservatives and fascists than liberals have, since they view it as a moral/intellectual failing while we recognize the ideology as performing a materially useful role for the ruling class. We also have other views challenged constantly on all sides while liberals are particularly oblivious to even the possibility that they are wrong since it is the generally accepted ideology, seemingly only challenged by those brain dead, no-good Republicans

I assume most of us were not only raised by our opponents, but also grew up feeling alone in communities composed entirely of our opponents.

They behave and talk like they don’t believe there is such a thing as peoples who genuinely disagree with them for actual reasons, they think that their position is THE normal one and any other is abnormal, they think we don’t actually disagree with them deep down which is why they so often try to convince us that they are just as left as us and want the same things and that we should just drop our cause and join them, and why they don’t understand and get so upset when we refuse and insist that we can’t, don’t and will never see them as our allies.

To them, peoples who disagree with them don’t really disagree, they are either ignorant, are being lied to or are lying themselves because this or that government or politician payed them, no on actually disagree with them, they just don’t know themselves that they agree.

That’s what they don’t or refuse to understand, peoples who disagree with them, regardless of whether they are right or wrong, have reasons for believing what they believe but recognizing this would mean having to look into why others don’t agree with them which they are afraid might topple their beliefs, they poison the well so they don’t look like weirdos when they adamantly refuse to drink any water pulled from it.
