brazilian coming up with an obligatory reminder lula hasnt persecuted most of the military personnel involved in the recent coup attempt and shut down the dictatorship rememberance day, a symbolic action that makes me very uneasy. he even recently paid homage to one of the motherfuckers involved in the brutal dictatorship. his general attitude enables them to regroup and attempt another coup.

he is also about to privatize our prision system and has already begun the process, something Bolsonaro tried and failed throughout his term as president. i could go on an on about the shit hes doing now that the dust has settled a bit. the shitty tax reform that changes nothing and might even do harm to our buying power and the aggressive ‘debt ceiling’ imposed to starve public services comes to mind.

please don’t be fooled by his pretty words and pay attention to his actions. his attitude reminds me of US democrats/neolibs, who pay lip service and overpromises, while doing little to nothing at best and harm at worst.

Agreed, the gesturing towards privatizing our prisons is right now absolutely the most concerning thing that’s being discussed. In a country with powerful criminal factions which have all but taken over the entire prison system, handing them over to companies with a profit motive cannot be even remotely a good idea (not that it would be anywhere else, for that matter).

There was also the Prop 22-inspired PL dos apps, a proposed law which would severely fuck over gig workers, particularly Uber and delivery drivers.

Also, one very petty (but is it, though?) problem I have with his administration is that I can no longer buy woodworking tools from Banggood or Aliexpress without paying a 92% import tax if they happen to cost more than $50. If it costs less than that, then you only pay 17%, but apparently that will become 25% very soon. Well, shit. Faz o L.

I forgot about that PL! And im unemployed and about to start doing this work. Not only does it royally fucks us over by essentially legalizing the 12(?)hour workday, it also opens up precedent to expand the shitty app work model to other types of work. Just one more step towards completely eliminating worker’s rights without the battle to remove the CLT. (for context: its our labour protection law system, and we fought hard for it)

The import tax also fucks me, I used to do some electronics and computer repair/building on the side. No longer possible at all to buy parts and tools with those crazy taxes, and no viable alternative on the horizon. Theres simply NO local industry and no plans to industrialize, we will soon be back to contrabanding stuff from Paraguay to be able to afford anything at all. Thats also something Bolsonaro was trying and failing through his term.

Faz o L indeed. We need more commie pressure here ASAP. At this rate open explicit fascism will rear its ugly head here again soon.
