So many songs I’d like to share with people who speak different languages as I figure they’d be super into it but it just doesn’t hit the same with the language barrier

Counterpoint: 99% of lyrics are cringe and actively destroy music, so if they are in a foreign language you can’t parse the cringe, and thus that music is saved

    Return to screm-a

fully agree. the main reason I listen to music with lyrics in any language I cannot immediately understand is to avoid hating the song because of the lyrics. I have stopped listening to many songs because I learned their language and started understanding the lyrics

    All. The. Fucking. Time.

My partner is a native English speaker, and I am not. They are sloooooowly working towards learning my language but they are nowhere near being fluent enough to share most cultural things I enjoy, like music, and it’s really, really, hard to get them to enjoy things when they have to be translated or at least explained some times.

Conversely, we (native speaker friends and I) always have a great laugh translating shitty stuff like the beattles around the campfire.

aw rats I just had the realisation I enjoy quite a few songs in a language I don’t speak and those’d probably hit way better if I understood them natively, too

Me trying translate Hamas songs but half the lines hit so hard in Arabic but the words in English don’t exist and it sounds like the bible when “We, O by your lord won’t change and won’t betray”

    oooaaaaaaauhhh

I mainly listen to dance music, which tends to be musically complex and lyrically simple, with vocals often there just to provide more timbre, so foreign lyrics don’t bother me.
