I went into a cinema fully expecting to watch some russian or kyrgyz movie(which would also have been great), but when I arrived the guy just told me to choose my movie on a streaming site. It’s even in english. And I have a private room.

I’m not in Central Asia, but life sometimes feels freer when large companies do not control everything.
I’ve not been in the US for about 4 years now and there are plenty of things that I do not miss.
Copyright is a plague, I want to be able to do this with friends at home.
A few years back i got pissed off about how many subscription streaming services were popping up so I went fully back to torrenting. I forgot my Mom was using some of my streaming logins and felt bad that I cut her off unexpectedly. I’m on the other side of the country from her and she’s not so good with technology so I couldn’t just send her files. I ended up just building a Plex server and mailed her a Roku with it all set up out of the box. Its worked great and I can share anything with my friends and family without them having to actually download anything.
Over the pandemic I bought a VR headset, which honestly sucks for nearly everything. There’s a “movie theater” app though that allows you to stream your desktop to a room of 12 people. My friends and I were watching movies “together” while we were all locked down. Its the only way I’ve ever enjoyed a 3d film because the effect is perfect from any viewing angle.
You don’t miss $12 popcorn? And $6 candy??
Dude, my we got bottled water, popcorn, and nachos for like $6 in total.
Why go to the movies just to watch something by yourself that you pick from a streaming site? Why not just watch it at home in that case?
I think the concept is different, normally one would go with their friends, rent a room and have a nice time. It’s the same with gaming clubs here. I also do not have a projector+big surface in my home.
