I know that here I am pretty loud and obnoxious, but IRL I actually have like, really bad social anxiety. Especially when talking to guys. (Actually come to think of it it’s usually only happens when I have to talk to guys I find attractive crush )

Sometimes it’s fine, but other times it’s like my brain does a blue screen of death and I can’t even think of words to say.

Is there a way to get my brain working normal in these situations? I already taken anti-anxiety meds and they help a little, but not always.

Any tips to stop my goofy ass brain from crashing?

Have you ever tried herbal tinctures? It tastes like ass, but kava is meant to help lower anxiety and heighten sociability, kinda like how drinking can loose you up but you are in total control of your faculties.

I like this brand. Their anxiety soother was super helpful for me for a while, too.

Aa far as specifically behavioral approaches I haven’t been able to figure that out yet. I’m AuDHD so none of that kind of thing has worked well unfortunately

Have you been medicated for the adhd part yet? I’ve been really concerned over whether it can help with social settings n it sounds like the huge majority of people find it helpful! I haven’t tried adderall or Vyvanse or anything yet but I hope to

Unfortunately for me I gave up trying to medicate my ADHD because while it did help, I got strong irritability from it, to the point where I was angry all the time and it was not fun for me or the people around me.

So I’m not the best person to talk to about ADHD medication. Other people here probably have better experiences.

Ah damn I’m sorry they didn’t work for you! I was mostly just suggesting in case you hadn’t tried since it seems to work so well but of course, mileage varies.

I think as others have said, body doubling and doing an activity together with someone can help a LOT, I know I’d rather play a board game/go to a movie/go on a walk or bike ride and so there’s not pressure to talk the whole time.

Idk if having a fidget would help, but I have one of those fidget rings that I wear and it’s pretty helpful for me/discreet

I love that for you so much 😭😭 I’m really hoping that my psych will actually let me try some stimulants, I’m struggling and it would be life changing to be able to actually make (and keep!) friends

good luck, hope it goes well for you! jsyk if your psych won’t and whatever else they want to try doesn’t work for you, you can look for new one. I talked to a psych who refused to prescribe me stimulants even though they’d been very effective treatment for me for years, bc the psych had some really outdated info on adhd and some unscientific biases against stimulants, unfortunately there are some shitty ones out there

Thanks! Yeah, I took focalin a while ago and it was bizarre, I’d be totally wired, then feel nothing and back again. then tried strattera for a couple weeks and it made all my symptoms worse besides waking up on time in the morning lol. I really wanted it to work, so I may have to try focalin again before we get to the other stuff but I think I’ll be flat out with them and say I’d like to try Vyvanse or adderall. They seem to have the greatest efficacy for people anyway.
