Kiss Kiss Bang Bang as everyone mentioned.
I remember watching the very forgettable movie Felon some 15 years on DVD and thinking the only good part was Val Kilmer.

I think it varied quite a lot depending on the location and the time. We’re talking really hard to comprehend lengths of pre-historic time. Like 300,000 years of what we consider a modern human.
And the differences between hunting and gathering, and agriculture as @[email protected] says are not as clear cut. Many “Hunter-Gatherer” societies might be moving between semi-permanent seasonal camps (sometimes leaving behind structures and dwellings) where they had planted different crops along the routes and at the places, so they could change with the climate and animal migration
Other permanent “agricultural” settlements, might have been permanent communities with crops growing, livestock etc, but also significant portions of their population going on hunting trips that might take weeks or pasturing livestock in different regions. And almost certainly some amount of foraging local areas. We know even medieval peasants still did that.
At any rates both might have had periods of peace and abundance, versus scarcity and extreme violence. There’s probably some hunter-gatherers whose lives were like the garden of Eden, others who it was like The Road. Likewise there’s probably farming communites who were like “we’ve cracked the code free food forever” and others a constant life of paranoia peering over your hill fort’s walls incase a neighboring tribes is going to attack, loot your granary and kill you.

Yeah it’s crazy, I would have thought a good 60-70?
Edit: I googled him and he does look older in some photos, but whenever he is showing emotion (excited, happy etc) he knocks decades off his appearance
I think Luna Ooi has done some videos. Vietnam has a lot of garment factories including shoes. They are often conflated with so called “sweat shops”, but the pay, hours, safety condition, age requirements etc are better. Sometimes not to western standards but improving. Frequently unionised in large ones.
There’s still some shops with shitty conditions this is often smaller scale petit bourgeois family operations.
If the sneakers are made in Vietnam the working conditions are usually okay.
I mean 67 out of the 82 he landed with were killed within 3 days. That plays havoc with the chain of command. Che was only meant to be the doctor for the party and had to step up.
Regardless you’re also forgetting Camilo Cienfuegos who was the official second in command of Fidel’s faction. His politics were pretty opaque, presumably some sort of leftist but how radical unclear. He died in a plane crash towards the end of the revolution.
Why settle for Pu Yi, he should become a Souphanouvong figure.
Starting a struggle session on whether Illinois shares a border with Canada or not (it borders lake Michigan meaning you could take a boat straight to Canada without touching the land of another state, but you pass through Michigan waters).
Definitely Fidel was kind of a Maoist in the streets (how he fought a protracted peoples war from the countryside through a dialectical relationship with the peasantry’s needs) and a social democrat in the sheets (basically just wanted self determination for Cuba as a liberal democracy with welfare programs).

Look I thought it was weird when she said she was Jesus Christ’s “little sister” but I liked it when she abolished foot binding.
I’m centrist, I think the immortal science of Marxism-Leninism is a good compromise between the opportunist social democrats and the adventurist ultra-left.
Definitely some scientists in the MIC but that’s also a lot of different types of engineers as well.
I imagine a bunch of the 25% also work for industrial agriculture, oil and natural gas extraction and pharmaceuticals.
Taiping were weirdos but actually a historically progressive force, they wanted to end slavery/serfdom, and various other things.

Once you find out he’s a TERF there’s some noticeable stuff in the series, unlike the TV show in the books you can swap to different bodies as many times as you want, you are disoriented badly at first but eventually lock in and it’s as if it’s always been your body. Notably no one gets long term gender dysphoria if they swap genders (or go into a gender less synth body).
He seems to suggest the consciousness stored in the cortical stack has no gender. Only the organic body. A kind of bio-essentialist cutting of that Gordon knot. Also while the consciousness is stored in the stack, combat conditioning, sub conscious memories/emotions and even mental illness remains in the bodies brain. So while he never says anything about trans people, the implication is probably he thinks it’s a mental illness of their sleeve, which you could fix by changing bodies but then whoever gets the old body has the same problem.
Then contradicting all this a plot point in the second book is a sexy young woman Kovacs has sex with might have been a creepy old man in a new body. And Kovacs who is meant to be preternaturally rational (though one of the better parts of the series is he isn’t as his conditioning is wearing off making him more human) is a bit grossed out by that, even though by the logic of the series it’s completely normal. Which feels like the authors brain worms coming out about “sneaky trans people”.
The author is a TERF and sucks but in Altered Carbon human consciousnesses are digitised and genetic data recorded, then computer piloted ships (with time dilated human pilot consciousnesses hanging in virtual reality to oversee) do the long multi generation journeys with basically just a hold full of biological goop starter and drones.
They terraform the planets as much as they need, vat grow and release animals and plants to compete with local lifeforms, then when things are safe many years later human bodies are vat grown, with the consciousnesses that were stored being downloaded.
Then those poor fucks have to get a job.
