Well, unfortunately due to the nature of modern live-service games, we don’t actually own the game. We own a license to play the game.

That being said, if you give me a binary and expect me to run it on my personal hardware that I do in fact own, don’t be surprised if I decide to reverse engineer it to try and understand what the binary is doing.

And while yes, malicious actors such as cheaters and threat actors will reverse engineer programs looking for ways to do harm, security researchers and dataminers will reverse engineer programs looking for vulnerabilities that need to be fixed, malicious code such as cryptominers (anyone remember ESEA?), and undocumented mechanics (all of the wiki lol).
