The song’s pretty good, and I really like the movie-quality performing outfit. But there’s a bit of a mismatch between the “look” and the voice, I would have expected something a bit harsher like a death growl almost. Moriis’ voice suggests… some kind of sage in a cowled robe looming over a tome or an orb or something… But maybe that’s played out and he’s doing something new here…
He does a lot of dungeon synth / dark ambient with no vocals. Speaking of dark ambient, do you think it fits into this forum?

Sorry, I shouldn’t have been flippant. I recommend you talk to the other mods @Eldritch@lemmy.world and @gid@lemmy.blahaj.zone to figure out the focus of this community. Your options are:
- become more restrictive about what is posted here (I discourage that)
- keep the same current approach as stated in the sidebar: "An inclusive community for discussion of all things industrial, goth, EBM, and noise. Treating the labels with very broad strokes here, don’t hesitate to post. "
- become even more broad to include non-music stuff that is still related to goth/industrial. This is reasonable since !goth@lemmy.world and !goth@lemmy.ml and !industrial@lemmy.ml exist but are pretty dead.
Once you decide, I suggest you make a sticky post saying “[META] : … something…” and say “hi, we’re the mods, here’s the policy we’re working with, feel free to discuss here.”
The Post Punk Community I created specifically States no gatekeeping etc. So of course I’m open to being open. Like I’ve said elsewhere genres are somewhat nebulous and arbitrary. Even the same artist can straddle multiple genres in a single album.
Postpunk itself being the grandfather of goth New Wave and all the other waves that came after it as well as alternative and Industrial. Trying to nail it down to something hyperfocused and specific you lose a lot of people’s attention and a lot of content.
When I think of Goth, I think of dark music and dark art. Industrial falls into the dark music. I’d like to keep it this way, as long as the other mods are ok with that. Can I change the sidebar and banner? With the other mods input, of course.
Yes the only partition I tend to make is for Gothic metal. Not just because I’m not super fond of the genre. Though I absolutely love me some 69 eyes and the Birthday Massacre has gone a lot more darkwave in recent years. Though they were much more nu metal anyways. Nightwish or Ghost etc.
But also because they tend to have their own fairly active communities and a slightly different aesthetic. It’s not a hard partition however. Like I said inclusive LOL.
I am not a fan of Ghost and Sleep token. Others may like it though. Maybe the baby bat’s like that kind of thing.

There are a couple different ways of thinking about it. What you’re describing reminds me that I’ve heard that in Europe they talk about “dark culture”, as in:
Dark culture … is a mixture of thematically related subcultures including the goth and dark wave subculture, the dark neoclassical/dark ambient scene, parts of the post-industrial scene (with the genres electro-industrial, EBM, aggrotech and dark electro) parts of neofolk and the early gothic metal scene.

Personally one of the things I like about !gothindustrial@lemmy.world is that it’s advertised as being fairly open-ended.
Diversity, inclusiveness, and gatekeeping at a minimum.
I’ll make a new post to continue this discussion: I think it’d be good to get a sense of what the regulars in this community would like and expect. Broadly, I’m not in favour of being restrictive about what Goth is and isn’t.
