Yeah the only other point I have about this list is it’s very Wax Trax!-centric. That’s not a bad thing, but other labels existed.

For me, it’s both an industrial and metal album.

I know “what is industrial?” gets debated a lot, and while the instrumentation on Streetcleaner is very standard for a metal band (give or take the drum machine), I think the production, structure and composition lean heavily towards industrial. I can hear a lot of similarity to Test Dept. or SPK in it.

This and Floorkiller brings back memories.

I’m particularly partial to the band Bohren & der Club of Gore, who play “dark jazz”. Imagine the kind of jazz you’d expect to be playing at 3am in a smokey, forgotten jazz club where cynical private detectives go to drink away the memories of the one woman who got away.

I can’t really argue with the choices, especially since it’s limited to a 3 year window.

Edit: I’d swap out KMFDM for Streetcleaner by Godflesh. Controversial, I know 😏

Yeah, I just moved our linting/format checking pipeline to ruff and it’s been painless and fast.

I love this project. My favourite release is Empire of Love, but I really enjoy the more electronic-leaning albums too.

A while back the frontman of the band was struggling with addiction, and there was some controversy around unfulfilled Kickstarter incentives and merchandise sales. Fortunately it looks like he’s in a much better place now and I’m glad the band are doing well.

This band have been perpetually short of money 😉 Glad to know Nero Bellum is doing better though.

I’ll make a new post to continue this discussion: I think it’d be good to get a sense of what the regulars in this community would like and expect. Broadly, I’m not in favour of being restrictive about what Goth is and isn’t.
