I just lost 2 hours to this.

I always do it when I’m feeling super low but even when I’m just normally vibing about and listening to music I do it.

This time I’ve been imagining a dance routine to a cool new phonk remix I found and now I’m like why isn’t there phonk zumba? I’ve been to rock zumba which is fun but it’s always dad rock/metal and y’all metal 😮‍💨

Phonk zumba!!! It would be so good 😭😭😭

https://youtu.be/LVPDhY6jm28 song in question cos I’m not a lib

I don’t like calling it maladaptive daydreaming tbh but that might be because I write

Daydreaming keeps the communication lines between your conscious and subconscious healthy. Honestly, allowing myself to do it while also actively critiquing why some motif or “scene” comes back to me repeatedly has been extremely helpful for storytelling since it has a way of helping me fill the gap between event A and B in a plotline

I think i need to be more aware of when daydreaming just turns into negative scripting. That happens a lot.

I had to look up what you meant by “negative scripting” and while I get why daydreaming could veer into it, some part of me still thinks it’s a good thing to at least engage with it. As I mentioned before, daydreaming helps me notice cognitive patterns of mine since I become a sort of spectator of my own subconscious. Noticing it is the first step towards addressing something I feel to be a problem.

Of course, this is the kind of thing one does when they feel ready for it, I’m not gonna demand that a miserable person go into a sensory deprivation tank and ruminate about their unhappiness.

Yup yup yup it feels like it’s recognising when I veer into the scripting and disengage for a bit because I totally do the same thing you say where I have like little breakthroughs in understanding myself if I daydream sometimes.

Lotta talk about maladaptive daydreaming but nobody is out there promoting adaptive daydreaming

If you use Dr Google you’ll find that you fit the symptoms for most illnesses too.

If it isn’t something that actively hinders you it is nothing to worry about. Probably just that you have an active imagination which is cool and good actually.

Aaaaaaaa yey I’m like is this a totally normal thing I’ve just never asked others about or what? One of my friends does it but the rest just don’t and I’m like, does your mind not get bored and restless?

Hell yeah same but I need to be pacing around in order to do it, so I take walks. I don’t wanna call it “maldaptive” because I think it’s just how my autistic brain works. It’s like a stim and I get to be creative in my head. Phonk music is soo good for this for some reason. In general I like music that has strong beats and high energy like trance, drum and bass, phonk etc. It gets my daydream juice going. Sometimes metal too because it has that high energy.

Yeah i daydream a lot. Sometimes i like theming my music for where i am so i can pretend I’m in that media like deus ex human revolution ost so i can pretend I’m Adam Jensen while walking around London or stalker/bloodborne music when I’m walking around the backwaters of Yharnam. Persona 3 reload music during summer and i was literally John Persona

Yes, I sometimes day dream when I listen to music, especially when it’s really enganging, but I usually don’t, because I have a very bad habit of skipping to the part of the track that I like the most

Omg I do that sometimes when I slip into scripting and I’ll end up putting the same bit back 5 or 6 times cos I’ll do it that many times in a row 😪😪😪😪

That’s why I often try to stay away from my phone/PC while listening or I try to do something else (like reading). It helps a lot

I need to start doing this, I’ve started putting my phone away in my bag whenever I’m out with people to avoid drifting.
