It’s more nuanced than that. The last election in Taiwan gave a pretty clear answer, and it was fairly split.
DPP ran on “open up to the world first, then to China” while KMT ran on “open up to China first, then to the world”.
DPP won with ~40% of the votes and KMT ~33%.
In general, most people expect and want the status quo to persist, and the most pertinent question is whether Taiwan should lean more towards the rest of the world (liberal democracy) or towards China in the immediate future.
