Broadchurch was great for that as well. I adored Olivia Coleman in that, and often forgot she was acting it felt so raw.
Un Dorian Gray sin pasado, ni patria ni bandera.
I’m just a guy in the #pnw who likes going on adventures, and playing games with friends.
Three things I love: the Oxford Comma, irony, and missed opportunities.

Have you read the books? And if so, how does it compare? At least with the books I added a touch of Catcher in the Rye to HP & Narnia to describe it. Because really, Quintin can be a moody little git a lot of the time.
Amen to Uncle Iron. I legit teared up when he had his short in Ba Sing Se.
Yes! 100% with you. Any show that makes me care about the characters and miss them when they’re gone is a win in my book. Same for character growth. Firefly, Parks and Rec, and Schmitt’s Creek were like that for me as well.
Thanks for that, that was helpful and encouraging. My parents never talked to me about anything and I was planning on being the exact opposite. But watching those kinds of movies together is a great idea.
I appreciate you taking the time to write that.
Thanks for that. A couple of years ago I taught English overseas, from way too young through HS seniors and the 10 - tween age was my favorite. Old enough to be actual little people, but young enough to still think I’m cool. I loved that “start becoming who they’ll be as an adult” phase, it really was a beautiful thing.
I know it won’t all be sunshine and roses, but I’m excited for this opportunity!
Yeah, the Hitler Youth propaganda is what I’m afraid of. Hopefully, I can counteract that in day to day life, but the thought still scares me.
You sound like a good dad. I’m in the process of becoming one to a tween and I appreciated reading your post. Thank you.
I’m in the process of adopting a tween and that was my plan. DNS filter to block malware, ads, and I think I have it set to block gambling sites (which probably isn’t necessary, but eh, it shouldn’t also cause a conflict). My plan is to let him do his own thing, but know he can come to me to talk about anything he finds or doesn’t understand.
Though that’s more for advanced users. If people don’t already know about street complete, they should use the regular version.
Glad you’re enjoying it. Have fun unlocking badges!
For me it’s StreetComplete. It’s like Pokémon Go, but you’re doing actual map quests that help verify or correct information in Open Street Maps.
And if you do enough per month, you get free map downloads without a subscription if you use OSM the app.
I think it’s only on Android though.
That was actually a very useful (for me) way of explaining it. Thank you.
I believe you can stream with Peertube, but it’s easier to do with Owncast
Seconded. But apparently us saying that one semitic group must stop a genocide against a different semitic group is… checks notes antisemitic.
I also can’t see who took my package with a regular doorbell. But apparently having security cameras on your property is dystopian surveillance.
Mine was WASPy, so pretend it doesn’t exist.
Yeah, but all that AIPAC money would have dried up, so instead we’ll tell them to play nice with these new weapons and American tax payer subsidies.
I don’t know if Tailscale counts because it’s mostly open source (with options to run your own server), but I use it constantly to connect to Home Assistant and Jellyfin on my home server, as well as pairing it with NextDNS (pihole is possible for those that want to go that route) for ad blocking and Mullvad to use them as an exit node.
Seconded to Bazzite. I just installed it on my Steam Deck and I’m surprised at how well it works as a desktop too. Not actually planning on using it as a desktop though it’s nice to know the option is there.
