This is one of many reasons you should use a password of some kind that you keep inside of your head to unlock your phone rather than a biometric that people can use to unlock it against your will.
Probably just a minor processing error in your sound driver and nothing to worry about. I think I have had a similar experience with a particular white noise machine with hearing some slightly patterned sound when there wasn’t really a pattern. If it’s bothering you or increasing can’t hurt to go see a doctor (well can’t hurt too bad as long as you’re insured…) and get their input.
In my opinion, relying on upgrading users automagically to an encrypted and secure protocol isn’t good practice. If someone wants to use an encrypted chat, they should do so consciously. It will only cause confusion otherwise.
This is my theory for why they ditched this feature - the ultra-concerned about privacy superusers don’t approve of its messiness, even though in practice it’s the main engine for user growth.
Do people still use SMS these days though anyway?
I would have thought iMessage, RCS and separate chat apps like Whatsapp, Signal and WeChat would have largely replaced SMS by now.
SMS, MMS, iMessage and RCS are all compatible with each other and mostly used interchangeably and are the main way people text each other (in the US anyway). You just have a phone number, and when people text it with any of those formats you receive the message and respond the same way.
Right, the idea was that you could use Signal as your SMS app, and so whenever there was someone else doing the same you’d automatically upgrade to Signal. Whereas now I never have those auto-upgrades, any new contact I am just stuck on SMS with.
I’m still just so furious at Signal management for removing compatibility with other text apps. I used to be constantly growing my Signal network, now it’s a slowly shrinking rump that I never add anyone to.
Sure, why would election coverage not be news?
“When corrected” is doing a lot of work there
Oh no they’ll contaminate some glass and plastic that have been thrown away!
This will cause me to torrent the Amazon shows I want to watch even though I’ll likely still have access to an Amazon account to watch them on.
We’re in one of the best times to be alive in history and the world is still getting better in many ways, I just try to feel grateful for that when I see something that’s bad or getting worse.
Yeah just go ahead and put them in the metal / glass / plastic recycling, they will figure it out on that end with all the others that get thrown in there.
This is why the alien entity in the Expanse was called the Protatomolecule
Nice. All corporate mergers are anti-consumer and anti-worker.
Reddit removed downvotes?
I think the big thing is not having any requirements to join, you just make an account and you’re in. I started out trying to join a different instance and the second I saw a list of questions to answer I noped out and came here.
That doesn’t make any sense. If I’m instantly transported 2 feet to my left I’m still going to be in the same room, not in outer space. Maybe you’re thinking of this issue with time travel?
Meaning you’re on a space station right now?
Lately I’ve just been rewatching the final episode of the previous season before starting a new one. I’m a little lost in that episode but by the end I’m following along, and it’s usually an exciting finale episode that gets me excited to watch the next episode.
I didn’t leave immediately, but then my account got banned and having started using lemmy made me not bother making a new one. I may have to eventually venture back to reddit for the occasional niche community, but otherwise lemmy is just as good for getting my posting and scrolling done.
I’m a heavy poster and posting things I read to the appropriate subreddit has been a part of my internet process for a long time, so it was key to have a new place to keep doing that. Though that has resulted in there being several subs on here where I have made a large majority of the posts… but I tell myself it’s more worthwhile to be posting things here where they’ll be seen by fewer people but will contribute to this community existing rather than giving free content to reddit.
How is that different from the usual way of having a password as your way of accessing your phone?
