I wonder why you’re so afraid of a few questions. Do you act like that in real life? Postulating your opinion and then getting all flustered when it’s challenged? Perhaps the format of a blog would suit you better than a comment section where you can’t dictate the way the conversation goes.
So, you’re not actually talking about a coup or a military invasion, you know, the topic you just had to inject yourself into. Cool. Have you tried using words that convey the ideas you want to express from the start? It works, I guarantee.
I don’t want to talk about gun control, thank you. You should work on your reading comprehension in order to get a sense of what the other people are talking about and make fewer nonsensical deductions.
In your scenario fear, how do citizens with guns save the day, though? Does Kevin (remember, a farmer!) just start shooting? What do you imagine the police who are apparently on the side of the magas who shot first do with Kevin? Are you actually older than 15? Because not thinking things through and insisting they’re right is what teenagers do.
Yeah, I remember how you conflated Jan 6 with a military invasion. I then explained (argued even, you might say) how the scenario you’re referencing has little in common with the us military engaging fat gun enthusiasts on us soil, to which you replied “nuh-uh!”
Now that we’re all up to speed, can you elaborate on how you imagine citizens stop an actual military coup? Tanks are rolling up to seize the white house and there’s Kevin (a farmer!!) with both his AR15s, a Desert Eagle and really cool shades. What’s happening next in your fantasy?
I made an argument and you went “nuh-uh!” Sorry I tried to have a conversation with you, I guess. Maybe reflect on what you expect from making online comments.
Why are you ignoring my questions? I don’t remember anybody saying “Iraqis are probably too fat and complacent for guerilla tactics”. “Students of history” won’t disagree that there’s a huge difference between the 1970s us army fighting guerilleros in Vietnam and the 21st century us army fighting a bunch of tacticool idiots on us soil.
Did you notice that your only argument is “nah, it wouldn’t be different” without any substantiation?
Right, when was the last time that happened on us soil again?
Also, do you actually see Americans as some kind of guerilleros? With current obesity numbers, there’s no hiding in improvised shelters for most. Let alone simple but crucial things like “running”. Did you think of how the country isn’t totally unknown to the military, negating one of the major advantages for defenders in past such situations?
By all means, do not agree with me. You can’t convince me you actually believe us citizens have a fighting chance against the fucking us military, though. Absolutely delusional!
Citizens will not stop a coup attempt using guns. You’re watching too many movies. Be realistic.
My favourite is:
If you’re scared to spell out a scary, bad word, find another word to use instead of trying to hide it behind similar characters.
I’m not trying to paint you anything, I’m just reading your replies. At least I did until now.
That sentence upset you to the point you feel the need to insult my intelligence, misrepresent what is written, forget that “you” can mean people in general and ignore any clarification. That’s regrettable as I’m sure you do actually understand what I’m trying to say here but can’t address it over a perceived slight.
You took a comment that addressed noone in particular a bit personal and now pretend it was meant to start a revolution on a very niche corner of the internet. Not quite what I consider worth my time.
I am and I’m looking forward to it. It might take a while before I can reply, though, so please don’t think I’m ghosting you.
You make it sound like you’re just a cog in a machine with no agency and I do believe that’s what it feels like (other countries are in late capitalism, too) but you’re not if enough of you band together. You’re not forced to watch your life pass before your eyes, you choose to play along with the machine’s game. Hell, you even got the guns to take what should be yours and you just use them to shoot at little paper targets.
I don’t think of you as fat and lazy or the devil. It’s just frustrating to see your potential go to waste like that.
Lol, that’s the mildest form of corruption I can imagine.
But do you really think a village has zoning laws in the first place?
At that scale, it’s also much easier to just remove the chief’s son from his hut on the “nice hill”. And the chief along with him. Scale being the key factor is the essence of my argument.
No, that’s not an example of votes not counting equally…? Am I misunderstanding your example?
You don’t need some mathematical proof to just count all the votes and see which candidate got more votes. It’s how most elections throughout the world work.
Sure. But it only really becomes a problem in very large communities. A chieftain overseeing 50-100 villagers isn’t as easily corrupted.
I don’t know enough about Roman politics to contradict but “any civilisation really” is definitely too broad of a stroke.
Yeah, because everybody knows the obvious answer. It’s untethered capitalism. And no it hasn’t always been that way. Politicians weren’t always whores for the rich. That’s a rather recent development that can absolutely be stopped by the will of the people.
