Can any palestinians or other arabs here give a take on non-arabs wearing a kufiya? i think they look very nice and i’d like to show my support for palestine, but im not sure where this particular item falls on the scale of “showing solidarity” to “cultural appropriation”. i know some traditional clothing items are meaningful in such a way that it becomes disrespectful for cultural outsiders to wear them but i don’t know about this one. thanks and stay safe wherever you are

i assumed this quote was fake, and while it is from 1907 and not ancient greece, there’s similar sentiments from Plato and Xenophon quoted in the dissertation this is from on pages 73ff. This particular one is in the middle of page 74.

I appreciate the insight. The reason why I don’t really want to like, just read primary sources is that I’m not a historian (and only have very limited Russian) so I don’t think I really have the training to interpret disconnected primary sources into something reasonable.

have you read anything by stephen kotkin? i heard that his biography of stalin was good so I read the first few chapters but didn’t end up continuing (edit: not because I had any problem with the book, I just didnt think i wanted to commit to a 1000 page biography right now). I’d like to know something about stalin that isnt from american high school textbooks or internet memes.

I’m sure there’s still false negatives, maybe a very large amount, and it’s not feasible to test regularly when you don’t have symptoms cause money, but yeah i can at least say that it can at least under some circumstances still show up on the tests

I’m recovering from covid and can confirm that it’s definitely possible to get a positive result on an at home test. IDK about asymptomatic though
