Oh, yes, then I would be very angry.
That’s actually a really good point. Interesting games tend to make me read books. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t at least a social democrat, but reading definitely pushed me over the line to the actual left.
I’m not sure about the angry part (I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be angry about in this context), but I’m a lifelong gamer, and I’m here. The circles I inhabit tend to be fairly progressive, usually pretty liberal, but occasionally actually leftist. I don’t usually feel unsafe hoisting the red flag in my groups, so perhaps I am part of a pipeline to the left.
I don’t do twitch or youtubers, so I haven’t really noticed much of a pipeline to the right. But I do occasionally see nonsense about random games being “woke” for insane reasons, so I am vaguely aware of their existence. It’s just not a crowd I associate with.
It was a dark day. And it’s only gotten worse.
It is fictional, but based on real people and events. I would compare it something like Peaky Blinders, which I thought was a pretty decent representation of Victorian England and the gangs of the time. I thought Minning Town was a pretty good representation of what the CPC is all about, and an example of what a currently existing communist country can be like.
Glad to help! It’s honestly a little heartbreaking when watching it, knowing what happens just a few years later, but it’s still a great watch.
Another one I might suggest is “Minning Town”. It’s a Chinese TV Drama about their poverty alleviation efforts for the Hui people in Ningxia. It’s a legitimately great show, and covers a lot of aspects of communist society. It focuses on internal workings and ideals of the communist party, and a slice of life for the Hui minority. It’s also available on YouTube, although the subtitles can be a little sketchy.
I know you said you aren’t interested in historical content, but I would like to recommend “The Human Face of Russia”, which was a documentary produced by the BBC in 1984. They travel throughout the Soviet Union and speak to people about their daily lives in the context of a communist society. It’s easily found on YouTube.
Showmanship.
Thankfully it’s not a lifesaving drug. But yes.
I’m on a drug that costs even more than that. The whole process is bizarre, and appears to be scams all the way down.
What happens for me is that my insurance covers a big chunk of it, which still leaves me with a bill for thousands of dollars. But the drug manufacturer provides me with a card that covers that amount. So the whole thing costs me $5 out of pocket.
The aim seems to be inflating the drug prices to an insane degree to extract more money from the insurance companies. Who then fleece my employer for more money. Who then pay me less, as the insurance is such a huge benefit. And I can’t afford to lose that insurance, so they have a captive employee. And I’m supposed to marvel at all the money I saved.

That is just not true. Homosexuality was absolutely a crime.
Karl Gorath, a gay man, was first convicted under the law in 1934. He was sent to the Neuengamme concentration camp and later to Auschwitz, where he survived until its liberation by the Soviet Red Army on Jan. 27, 1945.
In 1946, more than a year after the end of the war, Gorath was prosecuted again. During a court appearance, the same judge who had convicted him during the Nazi era greeted him with the words: “You’re here again.”
Gorath was sentenced to five years in prison and later spent decades battling to undo the injustices done to him. His Nazi-era conviction was annulled shortly before his death in 2003. Post-war convictions were only annulled in 2017.
Yes. Sorry, best source I could find in the time available. But it’s true and well documented. West Germany specifically, although other western countries weren’t great either.
That doesn’t match with my readings of the history. Here is a larger article about it. I’ve also heard mention of a soviet delegation to the famous LGBT clinic in Germany. That wouldn’t indicate that it was an oversight either.
Regardless, even under Stalin, I don’t think the Soviet Union was demonstrably worse than the west in queer rights . The Soviets didn’t reimprison prisoners with pink triangles liberated from concentration camps for example.
Western media in general are just 5 capitalists in a trenchcoat (Disney bought Fox).
Of course not. When the US does it, it’s just how the world works. When anyone else does it, it’s evil authoritarianism.
There was a dipshit in here the other day who said “free Tibet” and “return Hong Kong” in a completely unrelated post.
I told him he should free Hawaii and return whatever land he lived on. He said that it was conquered fair and square.
There’s just absolutely no self reflection in these people. I think it’s fear. Fear that someday, someone is going to do to them what they did to us. But simultaneously unable to deal with the truth.
He’s the world’s greatest engineer, don’t you know?
Honestly, it’s not the taxes that kill me. It’s what they do with the money.
