Unfortunately I go there still anonymously for when I need help or advice on certain life things, but I browse in a social media sense on Lemmy.

I’ve said this before: if there was a way to create more discoverability of Lemmy through a search engine, I’d choose it over reddit. Lemmy has different domain names based on server/instance, and that makes wild card searching impossible.

I know there are other search engines out there specifically for Lemmy, but that doesn’t work for me.

In college I was taught that a belief = a good reason:

Good as in the traditional Greek sense that the end is either the truth or the flourishing of people, including any instruments that serve as a means to those ends;

Reason as in a cause originating in the mind that influences action or behavior.

So if you had a belief of something, you had a good reason to do something. Believing is good reasoning.

Obviously, you can easily devolve into moral relativism here, so I think the Aristotelian school can ground us again, favoring perception, deduction, and induction to get at “objective” reality, like you say.

The issue is when pundits and rhetoricians hijack these projects by basing them on religion or political party, using language and pseudo-logic that can appear as trustworthy to those easily convinced.

I like your description of ideas though. This sort of concept has been jostling around in my head for a few months. Appreciate the illustration!

You keep saying that you were a proponent of FF back in the day, but the fact that you aren’t giving credence to the experiences that made you switch lessens your credibility and weakens any persuasion power you might have on people switching from FF to Brave.

It would help your cause to explain what made you switch so others might understand you.

Yeah, Nebula is an alternative that’s trying to grow. Think it’s creator owned too which is nice. I haven’t made the switch yet, but if I wanted to support creators directly I’d choose Nebula over YouTube. And if I could, I’d send money straight to them via Patreon or PayPal or other.

Not arguing with you, but I wanted to contribute by saying that most people, at least in the US, are also deficient in magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D. For all this effort carnivores are putting into to convince others that their diets are sufficient, often times those making those claims haven’t looked inward to see what they themselves are lacking. Perhaps it’s a complex issue, dunno

I feel like this can still be a native lawn depending on which biome it’s in. Seems more desert like than a prairie/forest type “native lawn” you might traditionally think of.

There is the risk of tick transmission of Lyme disease in tall grass. I suppose you can pretreat to prevent contraction, but mowing grass means you don’t have those threats/hazards to worry about.

I still hate lawns and wish more would be native, but I wonder if there’s a way to grow a native lawn such that you invite the good wildlife and keep out the bad. Would need a biologist to chime in

Remember it’s not just about saving honey bees! Honey bees are domesticated, which means that humans will make sure that they have food and shelter and appropriate medicine and care throughout the year to ensure they make honey.

Saving “the bees” moreso means saving wild, native, often times solitary bees like bumblebees or carpenter bees that don’t produce honey but that also aren’t domesticated - they have no safety net that humans give them.

Those bees along with all other pollinators like bats, birds, and other insects are the ones at risk!

Still, we should all consider growing native yards to return habitat back to these dying species!

Would any group structure of the size you describe lead to the same state of affairs? Does this include government as well as any community that collects over any life activity?

I did. No apps on my phone anymore, and any time I have to visit the site I block Google from automatically signing me in. So I’ve used the site but not as an active user.

Still waiting for good search engine discoverability for Lemmy. Seems like Reddit is set up for that but not Lemmy. If that would work, I’d dropped Reddit altogether and start prioritizing Lemmy.
