  • I found a real easy approach to any undesired solicitation - zero contact, no reaction. Works on telemarketers, panhandlers, salespeople etc.

I have no shame about ghosting you publicly when the only thing you’re after is my money. If I’m in the home generator store, sure thing bro talk to me about my home power needs. If I’m walking out the supermarket and you slide around a booth to “help me keep my home safe during unrest” nah fam you can fuck yourself.

Cold open sales is parallel to pick-up “artists” imo. You want the transactional outcome for yourself, and my consent is the only thing you’re concerned about taking care of.

WP suspended inside a flammable liquid is a thing that has been done, both by state and non state actors.

On 29 July 1940, manufacturers Albright and Wilson of Oldbury demonstrated to the Royal Air Force how their white phosphorus could be used to ignite incendiary bombs. The demonstration involved throwing glass bottles containing a mixture of petrol (gasoline) and phosphorus at pieces of wood and into a hut. Upon breaking, the phosphorus was exposed to the air and spontaneously ignited; the petrol also burned, resulting in a fierce fire.

I’ll cop to coming at this knowledge from conflict journalism and military affairs instead of a chemistry degree certainly, but you posted the age old Anarchists Cookbook version of fire bombs with the chlorate wrapper, friend - both are incredibly dangerous to the user in transit and/or accidentally dropped. Multiple other alkali metals will also work by the same mechanism, it doesn’t have to be phosphorus. If you follow conflicts and militant groups, you do mostly see the rag in bottle, then the storm matches method, with any other mode vastly underrepresented because rag+bottle+fuel works well enough and is cheap.

Amateurs and militants do a lot of stupid moves that can be severely detrimental to your continued life like using RF/phone detonators instead of timers or command wires. That doesn’t mean it isn’t an effective and expedient armament.

The pro move it to get some phosphorus and drop it inside the bottle. The phosphorus auto ignites once the bottle is broken and it’s exposed to air. No messing with open flame, just throw and wait for your federal indictment for building firebombs.

Failing that, use a storm match instead of rag. Much easier to handle and less likely to snuff out.

Welcome to another watchlist, it’s more fun with friends! 🥰

  • I have fringe anarcho-syndicalist politics, I understand the theory. I also understand that nothing exists in a vacuum, and while our happy anarchy-commune/whatever of 3,000 aligned people may build mutual aid tranquillity in our area, others may not. And those others may choose banditry, and your stuff instead of working for food.

So our commune/syndicate/etc form a defensive structure/organization to stop/prevent them - you just created a military/police class of “most equals”. Who will need a command structure for doing the ‘gun/bat meet aggressor’ functions, and some kind of special remit from the community. Or we say no dedicated force and the classes it brings, and use the irregulars/militia model instead. Which has so many issues on so many different aspects that’s it’s not worth me typing out.

    Ffs go read Hobbes’ Leviathan

You’re at the magical thinking “And then of course we will all…” crutch that a lot of philosophies lean on

Capitalism: We’ll deregulate and open the market to everyone, and then there will be “perfect competition” in a “free market”

Communism: We have state socialism until society is prepared, and then transition to communism

Anarchism: We won’t have a central authority to prevent aggression, obviously we will work together as mutual interest aligns. And 100% no roving bands of raiders or warlords will ever ruin our society!

By rejecting materialism and embracing anti-materialism you are freed from the shackles of the physical constructs around us, able to shape and bend your environment- even from a long distance.

The individual practice is relatively new, starting in the mid 1910s but it blossomed and has ardent support in multiple nations with different styles expressed. Russians lean towards simplicity and utilitarianism, the American practice trends avant-garde, while the Chinese largely iterate on existing foundations.

Until we achieve a revolutionary advancement in science, anti-materialism is here to stay, and not just because of knee-jerk Luddite sentiment, but because of the unique effects it has on our world and others.

  • While it may have begun that way (and may still be the overwhelming use case, idk the breakdown) devs are using it for FOSS releases, and that’s where the ‘less literate’ crowd enters. Sourceforge was very simple to use, and had a consistent layout. GitHub wasn’t meat to be a SF replacement, but here we are having this discussion

  • Think globally, act locally

I don’t think you’re evil, but this attitude is part of the problem that enables terrible people to get away with horrific acts. “Why didn’t the Germans stop the holocaust?” can be explained a lot of ways, but complicity and silence feature throughout the answers, along with the ghouls who encouraged it

For a while I did exactly as you are doing. I was super involved in tracking and witnessing police abuses and misconduct, watching the drip-drip-drip while the country sat idle - and you’re right, it’s super depressing to see an obvious issue and be unable to change it. I did step away for a while when it got overwhelming, but me ignoring a problem, simply permits those abuses to continue without criticism or exposure.

I have the social, geographic and ethnic privilege to not be routinely affected negatively by the issues in the world, but I refuse to turn that to mute complicity

  • So you instead choose silent complicity with injustice and evil? I can’t change geopolitics sure, but at the very least you can bear witness and raise your voice to make others aware. And then somebody else who sees that issue, might have the power to change something.

If we all said “Damn that sucks for George Floyd, but police unions and politicians are big and scawy institutions- let’s do absolutely fucking nothing and go on with our lives” that is moral bankruptcy.

Stop digging and admit you don’t care about others dude, there’s no good way out of this hole you built
