If a PM has enough time to try to learn programming on the side, then they are a shit PM. A PM should shield the team from unneccessary meetings, be the main initial contact point and the initial refinement guy. Those are 4 seperate jobs at once.

I have the opposite of a void (full white cat) who lived on the street till he was two. Not feral, since he was fed by someone, but by no means a tamed cat. I adopted him and haven’t seen the cat for three months he was hiding so much. Pheromones, visits to the vet to check if there’s something wrong (we had to take him out from under the couch with a training sword), nothing helped. He was also a trash panda, getting into everything and everywhere. Not able to be touched, running after any sound a slipper made.

What helped was a video with sound of a female kitty popping in and out of her carrier and meowing at the owner. I was absent mindedly watching cat videos and suddenly out the corner of my eye I see my cat for the very first time in months, outside the sofa. He got tame after 4 months or so after that, and progressively an outrageous cuddler. Sits on the lap, loves belly pets, etc. Just needed time to calm down. Still a great hunter though, you can’t run away with the mouse on a string / rod, he’ll always get you, always full-sending it, walls be damned. Had to shave out his paw pads with an ear trimmer, cause he slid so much I was scared he’ll hurt himself.

It is a social network. Just because you don’t know someone personally doesn’t mean you aren’t interacting with them socially. Asking someone for directions to somewhere is socializing - you won’t meet the other person ever, but you made a connection, talked to someone. In extension, people who post more in certain communities will be recognized by many people visiting those communities. It doesn’t matter who is behind the nickname - you are talking to them, a living human being.

Okay, but they want to join a meta instance. That’s what they know. Instantly defederating away from them “because corporation” is simply fearmongering in a system that’s resistant to “bad corp” taking over.

Who is “we”? This is a slippery slope talking point and nothing more. Fediverse was made with redundancy in mind, so nobodys instance is the “main” one by design. Being scared of someone comming in and being part of the various communities doesn’t mean that the fediverse would somehow get absorbed, destroyed or whatever have you.

No, the issue is “we don’t accept people from facebook”. It doesn’t matter what their opinion is - facebook bad.

Which is batty. I want lemmy to grow, to have niche communities open up etc. Gatekeeping people because “we don’t take kindly to your type” is plain stupid.

They could be “snooping” on the fediverse anyway by starting an instance and federating.
