Well back in time it was Film camera ,change roll can be anoying and a wrong shoot is wrong forever . A digital camera with flash media ,ultra expensive for the era even a 2mb one . Plus you need a dedicated software for copy the picture with a very slow serial port . Removable flash storage even more expensive . Floppy are dirt cheap . And per floppy it’s around 5~6 picture (or 15 second of video )

I use OsmAnd~ it’s very nice ,and open source . Oh and if you use the F-droid version you got the pro feature .
