  • Yea they were an affordable option for like 2 years then became a novelty that trust fund kids use for a few years before settling into mansions.

My mom bought some land (.5 acre)and built a tiny home on it, cost over $100k altogether still for a 700sqft 1b/1bth with a loft that can have a sleeping bag if needed but is really storage. Works for her needs and is half the cost of any of the homes in her town that are all falling down but still 200k for some reason…

  • My work had something like this to detect drug usage on premises for a while (it was and is a problem still) and it costed like 30k capital and 2-3 opex a year. We had it for like a year and only took it out because there were too many false flags and security didn’t and doesn’t have the staff to be chasing down every alert anyway.

It was neat that on paper it was able to detect different drugs, heroin, weed, meth all flagged different alerts with 2 of those contacting police when detected. Unfortunately it was only like 70% accurate and we didn’t/don’t have enough security staff to use it properly so it’s gone now.

  • No but we have to be very careful about handling Russia because of it. The world was terrified when the Soviet Union collapsed because of all the nuclear ordinance they were sitting on now being potentially insecure. Luckily it didn’t get dispersed and used by random warlords fighting in a power vacuum, that time, there’s no guarantee the same happens if Russia or America fail as states now

  • Even if a collapsing America doesn’t use it, I would be very concerned about all of it ending up in the hands of whatever successor state(s) and what they might do with it. A major concern of the world with the Soviet Union collapse was the status of the nukes and making sure random warlords and terrorist groups didn’t somehow get ahold of the nukes or fissile materials from the nukes since they likely couldn’t attain the nuke and launch code

American schools cover the civil and 2 great wars because those were the last times we were arguably the good guys. Every war since has been a conflict we started by meddling or we had no good reason to be there
