  • Not only does the comparison predate the covid pandemic, it also says nothing in particular about Trump. Some people think the economy would have done great under him, some don’t, and some think other things are more important than just the economy. Still, there is no comparison to Trump here, there is only something showing that we’ve done better under Biden than many countries have done with their economies and leaders.

  • That was a great simple explanation, thank you. I’ve certainly made some adjustments, and was thinking about it yesterday while shopping. Paper supplies have gotten so very expensive that I’ve (finally) purchased cloth napkins to use both for napkins and for smaller kitchen clean up jobs. I’ll be using less paper, and more water for laundry. I’m estimating 1-2 loads worth of napkins per month. Pretty sure it will be both cheaper and more environmentally friendly than paper towels.

  • Thank you for posting this. I’ve put it on my FB page (very tiny, family and close friends only). My Bernie loving friends who won’t vote for Biden because he’s too conservative or whatever need to see it. And my conservative family members who consider themselves trump loving patriots need to understand the consequences. I captioned it “If you believe in democracy, please vote to support it.”

If we’re going to keep Trump from a 2nd term, each of us needs to do what we can to convince all our friends and family to vote in support of democracy.

  • Shifts power source to the grid. Grid can use different sources for energy production.

Such an excellent point, which I hadn’t seen mentioned before. It means we can have more control over those sources. Thank you.

    with hand crank windows

I want hand crank windows back anyway. Faster and more reliable. So frustrating when the “auto complete” aspect of modern car windows means I cannot easily get the window half way closed or only a crack open. But I must be in the minority on that.

  • You may have noticed that being a millionaire is not the sign of real wealth anymore. To be actually wealthy, you need to be a billionaire or at least half-billionaire. Honestly, a middle class person approaching retirement is supposed to be worth a million just to expect to maintain their middle class lifestyle through retirement and into death. Otherwise either their children or the government supports them, probably at a vastly reduced lifestyle.

  • As you know, the current system in America is that we pay into the retirement system. In the present time those funds are used to support present day seniors, and then when you have reached the proper age the people currently paying into it are supporting you but can (supposedly) expect to be supported the same way. I started paying into it at age 16, and now at 69 I am collecting. And additionally, I need to have saved up.

I don’t know how we would transfer out of this system and into a completely self sufficient one. I DO know that this system mitigated the deep deep poverty many elderly used to experience. Because for the working and poor classes, no one realistically makes enough to set aside for retirement.

  • Of course this is a good thing, but there are still serious negative consequences to a reducing population, which must be mitigated. Primarily, old people who are past working age are an expensive population to maintain. When there are as many or more old people as there are young, the burden is too heavy for young people to bear. And I say this as a 70 year old. Young people today CANNOT hit old age without their own substantial retirement resources.
