I keep seeing so much stuff against .ml and I’m just like, I picked it because it was basically the only really active one when I first joined…

Its harder to remember not swimming to be honest. School swimming lessons, beach holidays, leisure centres, holidays abroad etc. I actually used to swim competetively (for my age bracket in my teenage years) for a local team. Went on to do lots of scuba diving and was a pool lifeguard for a bit
I think not swimming here is pretty rare, I want to say that maybe 10 or 15% of my year were classed as “non-swimmers” and had lessons separately to the rest.

Where are them?5·6 个月前I thought I had heard about him making that before but no amount of searching seemed to find it… I guess thats why, I was thinking I had just made it up or something.
Daeraxa@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I want more federation! Federated browsers? Federated github? Federated hosting providers? Federated internet? Where are them?12·6 个月前A few I’ve been interested in.
- I just saw this project literally today, a federated search engine using web rings - https://gitlab.com/Doomsdayrs/mengzi
- Ibis is a federated wiki by the Lemmy dev - https://github.com/Nutomic/ibis
- WriteFreely is a simple federated blog designed around writing - https://github.com/writefreely/writefreely
- Funkwhale for music hosting (I’m sure I heard rumours about it stopping development but it still seems active?) - https://dev.funkwhale.audio/funkwhale/funkwhale
One I’m surprised I haven’t seen (although might inappropriate for the standard, no idea) is an activitypub messenging service like Matrix
I have a whole bunch of these:
- DevTerm
- uConsole
- GameShell
- BeepBerry
- PocketCHIP
- PICOmputer 28
Non-Linux:
- Hand386
- Book 8088
- Forth Deck
- T-Deck
I’m looking at getting a couple more as well. Honestly I don’t have much use for any of them but my favourite and the one I have used practically the most is my DevTerm. I love the style, the screen, its just a really fun little device.
Was putting together a flat pack wardrobe with my sister and mother. Mother just had to stand and support it whilst my sister did up some screws (at this point it was just a rectangle with no internal support so gravity wants to turn it into a rhombus). She starts getting bored and checks her phone leading to it tilting and the top section falls out and brains my sister on the head. After some choice words we put it back together and then she manages to do the exact same thing the second time, right on top of the bump made by the first incident. It was like a laurel and hardy sketch. My sister was very much not amused.

Daeraxa@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a habit/thing/technique that most people would benefit from, in your experience/observation? What are some habits that would be best avoided too?22·7 个月前Just go for a walk. Calling it exercise scares people into thinking about running, cycling or the gym but for the last month or two i just make it my mission to go for a long-ish walk once a day. Nothing strenuous, some days I walk a couple of kilometres to the nearest big supermarket to pick up some stuff, or i’ll get something delivered to a post locker thing or I’ll just go for a nice walk around the nearby park and bring my neglected camera with me to take pics of some birdies.
You would be surprised how many calories it adds up to and how much better your well-being can get from some sunlight and fresh air.
Jet Ion GP for the PS2. I thought it looked fun when I saw it in the shop…

Mark Robinson lost in NC?
The Volt is a PHEV, I think the Bolt is the pure EV. I was considering its Vauxhall badged version years ago as a choice for a company car.
I have an older, second hand Thinkpad Yoga but it has served me really well with Fedora installed on it.
I also have a PineTab 2 but that has been a little bit of a rough start and still doesn’t feel that great as a day to day device just yet
Honesyly I think I prefer the laptop form factor over tablet + smart cover. Even my old Android Asus Transformer I used almost exclusively in laptop mode to do anything productive.
Daeraxa@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What camera do you have and what is your favourite type of photographs to take?2·9 个月前A Nikon D3200 I’ve had for year I like using for nice landscape pictures and portraits but I used to use it as just my ‘everything’ camera - a role now taken by my phone.
Sony Cybershot DSC-W12. This was my first digital camera and used to go absolutely everywhere with me. These days it still gets used but purely as an underwater camera for scuba diving as I have an underwater case for it.

Daeraxa@lemmy.mlto Linux@lemmy.ml•I made a local APT repository that automatically fetches DEBs and AppImages from anywhere1·10 个月前Willing to give this a go. My go-to for getting non-repo debs automatically has been deb-get which works well but seems susceptible to issues when changes in the software it lists causes it to break and whilst the fix itself is usually made pretty quickly, it seems to go long periods of time between PR merges and releases (which includes adding new software). If this is a viable replacement for it then i’d love to start using it.
Pulsar because I am (or at least was and will be, I’ve been a bit absent recently) part of the team developing it. Its a fork of Atom to continue development after GitHub pulled the plug, entirely community developed and focused.
