I mean, in fairness, this is a reviewer. I think the obsession with everything being different than it used to be is mostly a consumer, marketing and reviewer thing. Designers certainly have a role to play in the problem too, though.

Its debatable/unclear whether I count as a cis man, but I think a really big one is being willing to call something out as being out of line, or disrespectful to another person. You have to be willing to contribute to a culture that doesn’t accept disrespect towards populations other than the majority of the platform, and that holds people here to a higher standard than most places on the internet

So, I’m from outside this community, so forgive me if this seems out of touch to y’all, but how are these the same thing?

It kinda feels like this post is just alleging that because both are bad and create structures of power that aren’t good for average people, that they are the same… Which seems like a ridiculous argument to me since thats true of A LOT of different systems of government. It seems to me that this meme could have just said “these things are both bad, and we don’t like them here”. For some reason it kinda reminds me of the whole “socialism is when the government does things” argument you hear from conservatives sometimes. I’d be curious to hear other perspectives, and learn from how folks in this community look at things differently than I do.

While that is fair, messaging is a bit more complicated since you kinda have to use what other people in your life are using, and almost all of the people I talk to regularly have RCS but not other chat services I’d rather use. If RCS was available outside of google messages I’d gladly use a third party RCS app.

Like I said, its great to have an account option if you can still use it without your google account via the QR code, but loosing a feature unless you use a google account would be a bummer.

To be totally honest it seems weird to me that people would be so invested in debating my preference to not have to use a google account. I was just expressing my personal disappointment that a feature might go away unless I link an account- do I really need to justify that? Can’t I just be not-thrilled at something without people telling me I shouldn’t feel that way, or that I’m unjustified? 🤷

If the qr code options stays then its absolutely a positive, but RCS is already a (very frustratingly) closed ecosystem: locking certain features behind an account would just kinda suck, since google messages (or I think maybe Samsung messages also) is the only way to use RCS presently

Semicolons, dashes, commas, and colons are all great for breaking up and organizing words without implying to total pause that a period would. I find them perhaps especially useful since I write like I speak, making conveying cadence or pauses to break up run-on sentences particularly important for clarity

Wait, I assume if you install a banking app through Aurora it still works? Totally fair if that doesn’t work for your needs (you kinda need a google account, even if a blank one, to have it work right now) but I assume installing apps through it doesn’t limit them or make them less functional for having been installed through Aurora?
