  • I just installed Linux Mint for the first time. As a life long Windows user it’s more intuitive than Windows 11, the install and setup was easier than I’ve ever had doing a fresh install off windows, and I was able to connect to my media tower (still running Windows 10) faster and with less hassle than using a Windows machine.

The only thing that was more difficult was having to look up where to find the setting in Steam for “please provide me Linux versions of games that don’t officially support it.”

  • I would be surprised if many younger people in this era would have the patience to make it to the bottom row of this graphic.

That’s not a patience issue, that’s a design issue that has been eliminated in modern games.

There’s no reason to delay progress by making players repeatedly play through several trivial fights before getting back to where they are having a challenge. It was done in the NES era because they were operating under the philosophy that “the longer it takes to beat the game = the more hours of gameplay in it.” It didn’t matter if most of those gameplay hours were trivial digital chores like stomping Glass Joe yet again.

Yes, my comment wasn’t about online casinos but about the people who think they have a right to tell others how to live their lives.

Who’s “they the people”? I don’t know much about the gambling industry the internet but if it’s anything like any other industry place then it’s not a centralized monolith but many independent business people.

You must know nothing about owning a home if you think rent just goes straight into a landlord’s pocket.

Is the landlord making a profit? That comes from rent going into their pockets.

that doesn’t mean paying for it is a scam.

Choosing to pay for it, sure. Most renters would rather own but can’t because landlords have bought up a limited supply of a resource in order to profit off it. When scalpers do that they get vilified, but do that with something necessary for survival and for some reason it becomes an investment?

“People with more money than sense would rather pay someone else to do it” is not a good argument for forcing everyone else to also pay someone else to do it.

  • Weren’t you the one complaining people don’t know how to read?

Nobody in this thread is advocating not voting for Biden. The opposite in fact. People are being honest that Biden getting elected is simply treading water, Trump getting elected is sinking.

Of course you vote to not sink, but don’t expect that to improve things. You then continue to do other things that will actually improve things until the next election.

  • Stockholm Syndrome

Completely off topic: Stockholm syndrome gets its name from a hostage situation where the police seemed to show no care or concern for the hostages’ safety and the captors did more to protect them than law enforcement. Of course the hostages’ felt more empathy towards their captors.

According to accounts by Kristin Enmark, one of the hostages, the police were acting incompetently, with little care for the hostages’ safety. This forced the hostages to negotiate for their lives and releases with the robbers on their own. In the process, the hostages saw the robbers behaving more rationally than the police negotiators and subsequently developed a deep distrust towards the latter.[9] Enmark had criticized Bejerot specifically for endangering their lives by behaving aggressively and agitating the captors. She had criticized the police for pointing guns at the convicts while the hostages were in the line of fire, and she had told news outlets that one of the captors tried to protect the hostages from being caught in the crossfire.
