It probably wouldn’t be that bad on a longer rifle, but on a carbine or SMG having like a third of the gun’s length be a knife can’t feel all that good. And with an SMG in particular, actually gripping it in proper bayonet technique would be a lot more awkward - your supporting hand would have to wrap around a much thicker part of the gun, and you wouldn’t be able to grip as far forward.
