Mobile devices that use GPS for location services, don’t use the satellites exclusively, they use GPS-A location which relies on triangulation between cell towers, and for greater preciseness wifi SSID signal strength.
Turning off internet location services make GPS-A devices unable to use GPS services
@Illecors other reports don’t even mention GPS, mobile internet is considered the threat vector. This is akin to Oakland turning off BART’s internet during protests sparked by the killing of Oscar Grant. Totalitarian regimes whether its Erdoğan’s Turkey, American cities with large protests, Iran, or Russia feel compelled to control communication and information. North Korea never even let’s comms/info get turned on.

Yes, but AGPS is not GPS. And GPS receivers are tiny already. So this makes no difference to anything.

This is not a surprise in the slightest.

I guess I should’ve been clearer. When I said
I did mean their intent to control comms.
We are on the same page in regards to what goal of this shut down is.
