Also weird that the article title says ‘for trans’ instead of ‘for being transgender’
I do believe that it is wrong to hate crime someone because of perceived trans status and I side with victims of transphobic violence unconditionally. I’m a little sad that I have to clarify that as a trans person and can’t just be given the benefit of the doubt there but if making it explicit helps the discussion and increases people’s comfort levels then I’m happy to.
I’m also operating on the assumption that someone who is willing to beat up a woman because of perceived trans status is not concerned with the legitimate differences between being transgender and being transvestite and the active reappropriation of the latter, and instead just wanted to use the one that sounded like more of a slur. I’m open to being checked if that was an unreasonable assumption.
I am in fact a transperson too. I just find it distasteful to immediately harp on someone who was a victim of a hatecrime just because they used the wrong words in good faith.
I don’t think anyone is doing that though. She has a couple ignorant transphobic brainworms but as far as I’m aware she isn’t on hexbear and no one is harping on her.
Transvestites are crossdressers, not transpeople. How about not accusing a hate crime victim of being transphobic.
