From 20 years ago but consistently relevant
It’s a thing I’m having a problem with recently, even for protests of our party. It’s becoming a circlejerk of who can make the funniest or quirkiest sign basically, which to me gives the protest a silly look. Or there are protests in which people dress up like something silly, like a lemon.
No idea what I do want to see but the goofy behavior makes me cringe.
It’s because this sort of protesting is primarily for virtue signaling, they want to show other people who already agree with them how much they “get it” and how smart they are etc. They aren’t making sure they’re directing their energy at sending a message to those who are actually in power, which is why they don’t take it as seriously.

If you go to a march and you didn’t walk away more organized than you walked in, you haven’t done anything.
“Hey hey, Ho ho, Emperor Palpatine has got to go!” got a chuckle out of me.
