Hello everyone, hope everyone is having a good week. I have been playing a survival mode playthrough of Fallout 4. Its been quite a struggle but I am learning to play smart and stealthy. Hope everyone’s new year is off on the right foot.

2025 is the year of the backlog! I’ll definitely work on it this year. I tried last year and I started strong, but then got bogged down and burned out just playing like five or six 100+ hour JRPGs lol. Need to pace myself better.

Anyway, first game of the year done! I beat River City Girls 2 this week. RCG2 is a better game gameplay wise and all the QoL added was great, but the story was worse compared to RCG1. Not that stories in beat em ups are ever good lol, but I liked the ending twist in RCG1. Although 2 is better with gameplay and adding a second assist character and better combos, I feel that the bosses in 1 were a lot better too.

I’ve picked out like 10 games/game series that I want to complete this year, mostly from the 2010s, like Tomb Raider reboot, God of War, both Crash/Spyro remaster trilogies, Dragon Quest 11, and Hollow Knight.

No time this week, but I finished Dustborn recently. It’s absolutely a middle finger to the “is it woke” crowd, and I’m glad I bought it purely based on that. Some of the criticism is valid, and overall the gameplay is fairly mid IMO. The world, characters and plot engaged me enough to finish it tho. Despite the ending feeling somewhat rushed and anticlimactic, I’m very glad it exists.

    Playing through a few things:

    • Brotato’s DLC. Still good, seems harder than the base game.
    • Total Warhammer 3 Kislev campaign (Realm of Chaos). Not a huge fan of the hybrid infantry, just makes it kinda awkward to control, and I never enjoy making a “checkerboard” formation because it feels kinda cheesy. The latest issue I have is that Valkia the Bloody is fucking cracked and can wipe out like half a stack on her own in autoresolve, but I’m sick of fighting her over and over again.
    • Darktide when I have a friend around to play it. Switched my melee Ogryn to shooty Ogryn and it’s a huge change in playstyle. Good game, though the monetization is trash.

I started Dark Souls II and made a cartoonish fancy butler type guy because I’m planning on doing a dex build to change it up from my usual build in these games (all strength caveman), and a goofy posh asshole seemed like the appropriate form for that. I also started 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for when I’m not feeling up to getting my head smashed in. Plus handheld gaming is always nice for the commute home.

Oh, and my pinball grind continues as well! I’ve learned a few techniques and I’m actually getting to the point where I can keep a game going for a bit and aim the ball intentionally, though I still miss my target a lot of the time.
