That question has compelled State House 85th District Representative Brad Slagh to introduced a resolution that would declare November as Dutch Heritage Month in the state.
The third-term Republican from Zeeland Township went to a pending Historical Society of Michigan State History Award winner to get some help in backing this proposal.
Dr. Swierenga will receive this SHA honor at the 150th annual meeting and Michigan History Conference in St. Joseph this coming Friday for his book, “AC Van Raalte: Pastor by Vocation, Entrepreneur by Necessity,” which the HSM considered “the definitive biography of this towering figure in Michigan history.”
Slagh is a member of the Legislature’s Dutch Caucus, and this House Bill 5943 should be formally introduced this week.
