The mags are actually internal (non-detachable), so I don’t think it’d have much of a negative effect. The shape is probably just to accommodate the taper of the cartridge, which causes the rounds to develop a curve when stacked together rather than remaining vertical. It’s why the Bren gun’s mag is so curved too.
I imagine they’re a bitch for usability, but the slanted mag bottom looks so good.
