The part I thought that was wild was them (DeSantis Administrative Office) calling it a “fad” “We disagree with the court’s erroneous rulings on the law, on the facts, and on the science. As we’ve seen here in Florida, the United Kingdom, and across Europe, there is no quality evidence to support the chemical and physical mutilation of children. These procedures do permanent, life-altering damage to children, and history will look back on this fad in horror,” spokeswoman Julia Friedland said in an email.

It’s crazy that people believe this shit. They just run with it, and don’t even do cursory research on what they’re going after. Trans minors literally receive medical care to prevent unalterable changes. Hormones triggering changes in the body is the whole damn point!

When I tell people I lost 3 inches to the shifting of my pelvis and spinal curvature, they’re mystified. Like, maybe they knew that estrogen could cause breast growth or changes to your body hair or your skin, but I don’t think I’ve met a cis person yet who was aware of the spinal curvature changes.

I think if people realized just how much hormones change, they might not only see that there are a lot of changes someone might want to avoid during puberty if they’re trans, but it might help them see that the most substantial changes to a person’s body that may happen as part of transitioning may have nothing at all to do with surgery.

It seems as though a lot of the thinking around trans bodies is focused on surgery, to the point that they don’t really necessarily know what else might even be involved. Which I suppose is why it’s so easy to lie about it for political gain.

Huh. That’s some interesting info. Thanks miss for the TIL. Also explains why my GF who is an identical twin is about 3-4 inches shorter than her brother.

What the fuck. If you let healthcare experts do their job, they will pick the evidence-proven measures themselves. If you prohibit them from doing their job freely, then they can’t do that.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday struck down a 2023 Florida law that blocked gender-affirming care for transgender minors and severely restricted such treatment for adults, calling the statute unconstitutional.

Senior Judge Robert Hinkle said the state went too far when it barred transgender minors from being prescribed puberty blockers and hormonal treatments with their parents’ permission.

He also stopped the state from requiring that transgender adults only receive treatment from a doctor and not from a registered nurse or other qualified medical practitioner.

“Through their elected representatives, the people of Florida acted to protect children in this state, and the Court was wrong to override their wishes,” the statement said.

At trial, Florida’s attorneys had conceded that the state cannot stop someone from pursuing a transgender identity, but said it can regulate medical care.

He said even though the state concedes it cannot constitutionally block people from identifying as transgender and presenting themselves as they wish, several legislators made it clear in their comments that this was their goal.
