  • It fucking sucks how unusable the internet has become for that sort of thing. Reddit swept up all the old forums, monopolized that kind of community discussion-based information and then completely enshittified it. Maybe I shouldn’t say “completely” because they’re still in the process of making it worse.

I hope you were able to eventually find information that satisfied you, but in case you didn’t already see this elsewhere, it’s not color alone that should necessarily be cause for concern, it’s also consistency (and by that I mean texture, not regularity). If it’s black but normal shape and texture for you, like many others here have said, it’s reasonably likely just a matter of something you ate (like the chips you mentioned). However, if the consistency is also abnormal for you, especially if it’s really tarry (black tar) then that may warrant telling a med professional irl about it.

  • I remember someone (probably here) saying that the Shadow of Mordor/War “Nemesis System” could have become a widespread gaming system similar to how the unique mechanics of Dark Souls games became an entire genre and now there are all kinds of games that use the system and tinker with variations on it to great effect now called “soulslike.” But because WB or Ubisoft or whoever made a show of patenting the system (and apparently won actual lawsuit challenges to it?) there is no genre of “shadowlike” or “nemesislike” games. That it was a clear example of a patent actually depriving us of an entire potential genre of games.

edit: I swear I read this whole thread before commenting but I missed EllenKelly already mentioned it. And yes, it has been discussed around here.

  • You kinda answered your own question.

then, like, isn’t basically every Western leader + Biden a “war criminal”?

    nicholson-yes

First of all, it comes down to how you define what a war crime actually is and that needs to be pinned down with whoever you’re talking to if there is any hope of having a meaningful conversation. Depending on the specifics of the definition, it’s not necessarily that Putin isn’t one but rather his crimes are so small and petty compared to every single NATO country leader, any leader involved in (for example) the Iraq war, and basically any leader that has taken part in colonialism or US imperialism. Hell, just the sanctions on Iraq before the last war are much greater crimes causing much more civilian suffering and death than anything that Russia (as led by Putin) has done in Ukraine.

To make the term meaningful, I actually don’t think Putin should be included under the umbrella. The way Russia has conducted this war is actually astounding in how careful they have been to not cause civilian casualties. I forget the actual statistic here but the civilian deaths caused by the “shock and awe” of the US bombing of Iraqi infrastructure in the first 2 weeks of the Iraq war took something like 6 months or more in Ukraine to reach that same number. Through most of the conflict, Russia deliberately kept Ukrainian infrastructure intact. And fucking Netanyahu? Israel is openly mass murdering children and targeting hospitals and aid workers. They are conducting a visible, unambiguous, full scale genocide. It doesn’t get more “war criminal” than that. Anyone, even among hardcore Russia hater libs that say Putin is a war criminal but Netanyahu is not are beyond fucking deluded. They aren’t just deeply unserious, they’re profoundly flippant.

  • Also, anyone who uses these free treat-dispenser netflix-killer sites, feel free to share any other decent ones you know of.

I have been using https://www.braflix.ru and https://ww4.123moviesfree.net since fmovies was murdered. They both have their issues and using an adblocker is strongly recommended. I had a bunch of others bookmarked, but a lot of them went down shortly before or after fmovies.

Like, there was fboxz.to, but now when you try to access their site, all that’s there is some text that says this fucking cringe garbage:

We've been providing links to movies and shows for a long time. Now it's time to say goodbye.
Thank you for being our friends and thanks for staying with us that long.
PS: **Please pay for the movies/shows, that's what we should do to show our respect to people behind the movies/shows.**

(Emphasis mine.) My god, fuck off with that noise. What were you doing hosting pirated content if that’s what you think? Or is that what the copyright pigs put up after seizing the servers, just pretending to still be the people who ran the place?

  • GOOD post. Sums up what I was thinking too. Since in this medium we don’t have the kind of emotional ques we would normally get as a response in group conversations, upvotes serve that purpose. It is unfortunate that upvotes are so… quantifiable in a way that nods and grunts of approval are not, which really exacerbates any problematic obsession someone might have with getting positive responses. But that does not mean we should scrap the whole method we have for providing that kind of light social approval that is necessary to some extent to have real communal (as opposed to one on one) discussions.

I also think that what you said touches on something that seems to often get forgotten in discussions about the validity of upvotes: They’re not just fir the person receiving them. Upvoting someone gives me a sense that I am participating even if I don’t want to say anything. I very often feel like I have nothing really worth adding since much smarter people here say it better than I could, but upvoting others I agree with gives me, as a shy lurker, a way to feel like I’m genuinely part of the community too. People talk about the dopamine hit they get when they see they got upvoted. Well I get a dopamine hit by upvoting others and knowing they got a dopamine hit because of my doing so.

  • they banned r/cth because we kept posting John Brown memes

That may have been their excuse to pull the trigger but the reason they banned us was because the sub was becoming very well known, with posts regularly making it to the front page. During a time when reddit was really starting to actively sanitize itself of any actual leftism (for the sake of advertisers, profit, etc. as well as for the sake of becoming the major NATO propaganda hub that it is today) r/cth represented the complete opposite of the direction they were steering the platform. It was quite literally a purge of leftists across the platform and it would have happened whether or not we toed the line by not saying slave owners deserve death anymore or posting John Brown memes. In short, the sub was just starting to get some hints of more mainstream internet attention and there was no way in hell they were going to let that stand.

  • You make excellent points about the demographic situation and the like, and it’s great to read something positive like that. But it seems really off to be downplaying the threat that fascism poses to the world. To come out and say that it doesn’t have the destructive potential this time around is just wild, considering the fascists didn’t have a nuclear arsenal last time. And that’s not the only reason that it could be even worse in a WWIII scenario than it was in WWII, with the absence of anything like the Soviet Union now, as u/edge was pointing out.

  • separates you from your belongings, pets, and family.

And often the medication keeping you alive. A lot of “shelters” don’t allow “drug use” on the premises. People addicted to fentanyl for example need to frequently dose to keep from going into crippling withdrawal. If you can’t dose at the shelter then you simply can’t stay at that shelter because you’ll soon be too sick to even function.

Most shelters don’t require sobriety anymore (though as I understand it, some do) and libs act as if that’s already too lenient. Well not having to be sober is not the same thing as being permitted to possess and use your medication while there, which can get you immediately kicked out. But even the no sobriety requirement thing is being challenged as they’re trying to pass laws that would deny anyone who isn’t sober from access to shelters, laws they of course frame as “supporting for sober housing.” The libs want to means test everyone, and one of the primary ways is to drug test people before providing any kind of “benefits” (read: basic humans needs).
