I set up a shorter board below. Now that she has to do both long jumps from pole to pole, Miez is getting quite good at it. The first jump takes a bit of catculations still, but she nails the second one really fast. For comparison:
Btw the board is 2,60m long, so the poles are about 1,20m apart middle to middle.
If I had a cat, I would insist on these types of things being on almost every wall. Looks like she’s enjoying your hard work.
They really are fun and easy to make if you’re a DIY person as well. Literally just make a fun shape and staple some carpet to it
Just incase some one reads this and gets any ideas. Don’t do this if you are a renter. While it is easy to install if you are doing it correct and using the appropriately sized wall anchors you will be left with dozens of hols from small nail size to larger quarter sized holes that will all need to be filled, patched, sanded, primed, and then painted to match the original wall.
That being said I’m THIS close to saying screw it and putting some in every possible room of our apartment.
As someone who HAS done this as a renter, I have one piece of advice, pick one wall and go nuts, spreading em out seems fun until you need to spackle and paint every wall cause spot painting doesn’t work. But if you pick one wall to fuck up entirely, you can just slap some mud on, do a full can or two of paint and it’s no more than like $50 and an afternoon of your time
Yeah but I’ve learnt to do a better safe than sorry version, as it has to take quite the force when a ~5,5kg cat like Koda jumps. In my old apartment I had shitty walls and I used a different technique to mount those posts so they became loose over time until I used heavy duty dowels. To avoid this, I now screw a board to the wall (with 6 normal dowels and use 1 heavy duty screw plus two normal screws from the backside to mount the posts to the board). Also, I prefer using 1cm thick Sisal over carpet as this lasts way longer.
Oh yeah, I would always just do a simple board and get some shelf brackets from the store that were rated for like 20lb+ never had an issue except for that one time my roomie tried to use it as leverage to get up something. Though recently I have built a Cat tree for them and have been going kind of freeform with the sisal rope and shapes it’s a fun little thing for them and it cost way less than a store bought cat tree
This looks absolutely awesome, well done! And what a lucky cat 🐱
