i know the writer is in the NYT for a reason, but i still cannot comprehend what’s the point of keeping this charade that taiwan is not china, reunification is not mentioned once on the article lmao.
I have been to Taiwan. It is a beautiful place and the people are wonderful. I don’t want them to be a political football kicked back and forth by the US and China, so my hope is that it can be resolved peacefully in a way that the majority of the people vote to decide. If that means reunification with the mainland, then so be it.

Now people in Taiwan are wondering: If the United States could do that to Ukraine to cozy up to Russia, will it do the same to us to cozy up to China?
If I was Taiwanese I’d be far more worried about being used in the first place, rather than being betrayed after being used.
You cannot reason with these capitalist bootlicking cowards. Taiwanese fascists would rather be used a a US c%^# sleeve then willingly rejoin China. They are only doing this as last resort for fear they will be abandoned.
