i know the writer is in the NYT for a reason, but i still cannot comprehend what’s the point of keeping this charade that taiwan is not china, reunification is not mentioned once on the article lmao.
I have been to Taiwan. It is a beautiful place and the people are wonderful. I don’t want them to be a political football kicked back and forth by the US and China, so my hope is that it can be resolved peacefully in a way that the majority of the people vote to decide. If that means reunification with the mainland, then so be it.

If I was Taiwanese I’d be far more worried about being used in the first place, rather than being betrayed after being used.
